Women's Volleyball Wins at Glendale, But Misses Playoffs

Women's Volleyball needed five-sets to win last Tuesday's Western State Conference Crossover Match at Glendale (25-19, 11-25, 25-23, 21-25, 15-13), but it was not enough to send them to the playoffs.  The Cougars, who had swept the Vaqueros earlier in the season, landed in 5th place in the Western State Conference North Division, however only three teams from the circuit reached the post-season.  The Cougars and 4th place LA Mission were both considered playoff hopefuls going into the final week of the season, but only the three teams tied for the WSC Crown (Ventura, Santa Barbara, and Moorpark) reached the post-season.  The Cougars finished the season 14-14 overall but owned a solid 12-6 record outside of the brutal WSC-North.  All-Western State Conference honors and awards shall be announced after the Thanksgiving Break.

The Cougars, despite missing the playoffs, put up some great individual numbers against one of the toughest schedules in the State.  Freshman Outside Hitter Bailey Woodside connected for a Cuesta record 321 kills on the season, which easily broke Courtney Carroll's 2003 standard of 308 kills, while also moving her onto the career list in 11th place.  Woodside also joined Freshman Setter Hannah Colletti with an assault on the single season service ace list.  Colletti eventually eclipsed Christelle Mouret's 2021 record of 51 aces by three (54), while Woodside moved up to 3rd all time with 49 unreturnable serves.  Freshman Libero Madelyn Freeman also dug her way onto the final spot on the season Dig list with 284.  On the career lists, Sophomores Summer Sebok (pict) and Taylor Vannest left their mark.  Sebok ranks 5th all time (since 1995) with 533 career digs in the backcourt, while Vannest ranks 6th with 66 service aces.
