Four Volleyballers Earn All-Conference Honors

Women's Volleyball battled through a tough Western State Conference schedule and finished 5th a circuit, which boasted three regional Sweet 16 teams.  The Cougars compiled an even 14-14 overall record on the season, which included a 2-8 mark and 5th place finish in the WSC-North.  Cuesta had four players earn all-WSC recognition: including first team selection Bailey Woodside (Santa Maria: St Joseph- pict).

Outside Hitter Bailey Woodside earned her spot on the 2023 All-Western State Conference First Team as one of the biggest hitters in the State.  She finished 7th in the State and set a new Cuesta record for kills in a season with 365, crushing Courtney Carroll's 20-year-old record of 308.  Woodside seemed to collect kills from everywhere but started her offensive attack from the service line.  She landed 50 service aces on the season, which placed her both second on the 2023 team and third all-time at Cuesta.  Woodside strengthened the Cougars' rotation and improved the team in every facet of game.  Woodside was second on the team in Digs (276) and 4th in both Blocks (25) and Assists (25).  Her stellar rookie season also placed her among the Cougars' stars of the past on the school's all-time leader board.  After her freshman campaign, she ranks 11th all time at Cuesta for Kills (365) and 9th for Service Aces (39) in a season.

Sophomore Middle Blocker Taylor Vannest (Turlock, CA) earned all-WSC accolades for the second straight year.  She was an all-WSC Honorable Mention pick in 2022 and was tabbed as a member of the all-WSC Second Team this season.  One of four returners from 2022, Vannest played through all the rotations.  On offense, she was third on the team with 127 kills, second on the team with 317 assists and added 49 blocks on defense.  She also dropped 36 service aces to land her in 6th place for her career with 66 at Cuesta.

Sophomore Outside Hitter Summer Sebok (Pacific Grove HS) and Sophomore Middle Blocker Julia Olson (Granite Bay HS) were both accorded All-WSC Honorable Mention.  Sebok, like Vannest, is a multi-talented player that played through the rotation.  She posted 126 kills, 39 aces, and 252 digs for the Cougars.  She also concluded her Cuesta career with 533 digs, which landed her 5th all time.  Olson was the Cougars' netminder and her 53 blocks, despite missing five games to an injury, led the team.  She was also second on the team with 150 kills and added more points with 24 unreturnable serves.
