Roche has been involved with Cuesta's women's volleyball program since 1978.  Raised on the Central Coast, she attended Coast Union High School in Cambria before attending Cuesta in 1978.  She was accorded all-conference honorable mention as a volleyball standout her freshmen year and a first-team selection her sophomore season.  In 1979, during her sophomore campaign, she helped lead Cuesta to its first state volleyball title.  

Roche continued her playing career at Biola University and her squad finished 5th at the 1981 NAIA National Championship. She earned her undergraduate degree in Physical Education from Fresno State in 1984 and completed her Master's degree at nearby Cal Poly.

Roche first joined the Cuesta volleyball coaching staff since 1984 and helped lead the Cougars to two more State Championships with back-to-back State Titles in 1985 and 1986.   She served as an assistant coach for ten years, before taking over head coaching duties in 1993.  While on the bench, Roche also lead Cuesta to a six more Western State Conference titles and led the Cougars to 11 playoff berths, including 5th place finishes at the 1993 and 1999 CCCAA State Tournament.  Nystrom also mentored current Coach Whitney Meyer, who was both a player and assistant for Cuesta with Roche, before she stepped down from coaching after the 2016 season.  Coach Meyer, who played two years and assisted for three more with Nystrom, took over the program.  

Roche lives in Templeton with her husband Keith.  They have one daughter, Lauren.
