Water Polo Alumnae Begin the NCAA Season in Santa Barbara

Former Cuesta Women's Water Polo Stars Tina Bell (Atascadero HS) and Kylee Wesemann (Farmington, UT) began their NCAA careers at the Gaucho Invitational at UC Santa Barbara last weekend.  Bell is now the starting Goaltender for Wagner University in Staten Island, New York, while Wesemann transferred mid-year to Ottawa University-Arizona.  The duo joined Cuesta as part of the Cougars' freshman class of 2018 but took different routes to the four-year level.

Bell came to Cuesta after a stellar career at Atascadero High and split time in the goal for the Cougars as a freshman.  She still earned all-Western State Conference honors as a rookie and returned as the Cougars' starter in 2019, where she was recognized as the best goalie in the State.  Bell was the CCCAA State Athlete of the Month for October 2019 and earned first team honors as an all-American, all-State and all-WSC player, while leading Cuesta to its third straight post-season appearance.  Bell signed with Wagner after visiting New York, but trained with Cuesta last year, while she Redshirted and took virtual classes.  Bell collected 38 saves over her first weekend of NCAA competition and the Seahawks are currently ranked #23 in the nation.

Wesemann, the 2018 Utah State MVP, was an immediate starter at Cuesta. She earned All-Western State Conference First Team honors as a freshman but took the next season off to go on a Mission.  She came back to play five games for the Cougars during the 2020-21 COVID season and was back in form this Fall.  Wesemann re-established herself with the rest of the State immediately and on the second day of the season tied a Cuesta record with eight goals in game against Ohlone.  Her performance earned her Cuesta Athlete of the Month honors for September 2021.  Unfortunately, the season was shut down after only three full days of competition, but she posted team-highs with 19 goals, 21 steals and 19 fouls drawn over her seven games.  Wesemann then made a mid-year transfer to OUAZ to play for the Spirit.  She has scored three goals, so far, this season.
