Cougars Split at Glendora Tourney- Kreowski Nabs Another Record

Women's Water Polo returned to Glendora for the second straight week, this time for the Citrus Tournament.  The Cougars split four games over the weekend but made sure to pick up their crucial Western State Conference (WSC) victory over LA Valley on Friday.  The Cougars opened the tournament against #7 Saddleback, but the newly branded "Bobcats" jumped out early and claimed a 9-3 lead at halftime.  The Cougars played even the rest of the way, but fell, 18-12.  In the nightcap, Cuesta had a slow start against WSC Foe LA Valley but entered the intermission with a two-goal advantage, 7-5.  Cuesta closed the day strong and outscored the Monarchs by six goals after the break to win convincingly, 16-8.  On Saturday, Cuesta split two more games.  Their re-match with American River turned out to be another five-goal loss, 16-11, but they finished the tournament strong with a win over Chaffey, 19-4.  The Cougars are 10-10 overall and their win over LA Valley should lock them in as the 3rd-seed in the 2022 WSC Tournament in SLO on the first weekend of November.

The Cougars head to their final tournament of the regular season at the TruWest Invitational in Long Beach this Friday and Saturday.  The tournament boasts 24 teams and three pools. The Cougars shall begin in the Top 16 bracket and open the tournament against #4 Orange Coast at Cerritos College on Friday (9:10).

Returning Freshman Center Anna Kreowski continues to pour in the goals and enjoyed two more all-time Top 20 scoring games at least weekend's Citrus Tournament.  Kreowski opened the tournament with eight goals against #7 Saddleback, which ties her for 4th on the list with herself and six other players.  She also scored seven goals in the tournament finale against Chaffey, which also tied herself and seven others for 14th all time.  She currently holds the Cuesta's single-game record with 10 goals, which posted on September 17th this year against Modesto.  Kreowski's four-game 26-goal outburst in Glendora also made her the third Cuesta Women's Water Polo player to reach the "Century Mark" in a season.  All American Shanae Lauridsen set the record in 2012 with 100 goals and current Cuesta Coach Rachel Gruetzmacher tied the record with 100 goals of her own in 2013.  The current overall single-season scoring record, for both men and women at Cuesta, is 139 goals in a season.  The mark was set in 1987 by Kelly Porter; the father of current Cuesta player Chloe Porter.  Kreowski currently leads the State with 109 goals and boosted her career mark to 126, which is 10th all time at Cuesta.
