Cuesta Women's Cross Country finished 7th at the 2021 CCCAA State Cross Country Championship behind the standout performance of Returning Freshman Julia Voss (SLO HS). She earned All-State honors after clearing the five-kilometer course in only 18:47.8, which was the 7th fastest time on Saturday and 6th fastest time at the State Meet by a Cuesta Harrier since 1996. Voss joins 11 other former Cuesta Harriers to be named, since the State dissolved the two-division system in 1982, to the CCCAA All State First Team. Voss has been the Cougars' top finisher in five of her seven starts and the leader of the other two, Dulce Esquivel (SLO HS), was right behind last Saturday. Esquivel finished 34th (19:50.4) overall and was followed shortly after by Adrienne Frere (Morro Bay HS) and Emily Mathein (Paso Robles HS). Frere and Mathein each missed three of Cuesta's seven pre-State Meet races this season, but they both peaked at the right time by knocking off a combined 26 seconds off their previous best times. Freshman Chloe Denham (Moorpark HS) completed the Cougars' scoring team by cracking the Top 100, in 99th place (21:34.9), and keeping Cuesta in contention with the elite teams. The 7th-place Cougars missed 5th place by only 10 points but were 30 points ahead 8th place Cerritos. Cuesta Women's Cross Country boasted eight all-Western State Conference selections this season, but with the return of Frere, who missed the WSC Championship, the Cougars had to leave two all-conference selection home. Two-time All-WSC Selection Shannon Ferrall (Arroyo Grande HS) and fellow all-WSC Second Teamer Amelia Schell (Paso Robles HS) completed Cuesta's scoring team at the CCCAA State Meet in 104th (21:55.5) and 107th (22:02.1) places, respectively.
