Poloist Jack Felsted Named Cuesta College's
2019-20 Outstanding Male Athletes of the Year
SAN LUIS OBISPO (May 26, 2020) – In 2003 the Cuesta Athletic Department instituted its first true Athlete of the Year Award. The coaching staff was encouraged to nominate their best athlete for the award and a committee was created that would weigh performance as the highest criteria. Today Cuesta announced its Outstanding Athletes of the Year for the seventeenth time. This year's winners are Water Polo Star Jack Felsted (Visalia: Golden West HS) and Soccer Star Martha Mora (Cambria: Coast Union HS). Both of athletes led their teams to the post-season and established themselves as elite level athletes.
2019 Western State Conference Player of the Year Jack Felsted (Visalia: Golden West HS) anchored the Cuesta Men's Water Polo's offense this season and was a finalist for CCCAA State Player of the Year. Felsted was the focus of the Cougar's offense and led Cuesta with 78 goals on the season, despite missing seven games to injury. He absorbed a tremendous punishment, because opponents had to use multiple defenders in an attempt to contain him as he led the Cougars to a Western State Conference title, their 41st straight playoff berth and, within a goal of their first CCCAA State Finals appearance since 2007. Felsted concluded his Cuesta career with 107 goals in just 38 games over two seasons. He is the 24th Cuesta player to be named the Western State Conference Player of the Year over the past 41 seasons, while also being named to the 2019 CCCAA All State First Team and earning All America honors. Coach John Marsh says, "Over Jack's time here at Cuesta I have had the privilege to watch him mature as a student and athlete. He has developed into a leader in and out of the pool. He has battled through injuries during his time at Cuesta to develop into one of the State's premiere water polo players."
