Cuesta Throwers Sign With Southern Oregon

Two of Cuesta College's all time top Track and Field athletes shall take their talents to Southern Oregon University.  Sophomores Matthew O'Henley and Wayne Garica shined for Cuesta in an abbreviated 2020 season and should step into prominent roles for the Raiders this spring in Ashland. 

O'Henley came to Cuesta from nearby Nipomo High School and eastabished himself as an up and comer as a frershman.  He earned All Western State Conference Honorable Mention in the Hammer and qualified for the 2019 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Regional Meet in the Hammer, Disucs and Shot Put.  O'Henley made his mark early last spring and had already surpassed his first year marks when the season came to an end.  He leaves Cuesta ranked #2 All Time in the Hammer (159' 8") and 9th in the Shot Put (44' 5.25"). 

Garcia graduated from nearby San Luis Obispo High School and headed out to compete for Cuesta Track & Field  His best event is the Hammer, where he posted an All Western State Conference Second Team mark in 2019 and qualified for the CCCAA Regional Meet.  Beyond his standout freshman campaign, Garcia hit his peak on the final day of the 2020 season, when he posted career-best marks in both the Hammer (157' 6") and Shot Put (37' 3").  His Hammer mark landed him in 4th place All Time at Cuesta College, just two spots and two-feet, two inches behind O'Henley.  

Southern Oregon competes in the Cascade Conference and in the NAIA.
