Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for is April is Catcher AJ Esperanza
Sophomore Catcher AJ Esperanza anchored the Cougars on both offense and defense this spring. He batted in the heart of the Cougars' order and was one of only three players to bat over .300. He led the Cougars with both nine runs batted in and a .433 slugging percentage, while also finishing second on the team in runs (5), walks (7) and on-base percentage (.475). On defense, the veteran backstop guided a Cuesta pitching staff that used 11 different pitchers over 78 innings, while also gunning down six attempted base thieves.
Baseball finished its abbreviated 2020-21 season with a 2-7 record. The Cougars hope to be back fulltime during the 2021-22 season.
