Beach Volleyball Ventures North to Play Monterey on Friday

Women's Beach Volleyball takes its first road trip to Northern California this Friday (10 AM) at Monterey Peninsula.  The Lobos' Beach Volleyball program is in its third season and is currently 2-2, while the Cougars' first year program enters its sixth match still searching for a team victory.  The Cougars beat the Lobos on the hardwood last Fall, but Monterey Peninsula has a two-year head start in the sand.

Last week the Cougars fell to 0-5 on the season, after being swept in tri-meet against perennial playoff contenders Golden West, 5-0, and Mt San Antonio, 5-0.  The dual setbacks did provide the "Sand-Cats" with some bright spots in their ladder against the host Rustlers.  The Cougars swapped their #3 and #4 pairs and both teams pushed for victory.  Freshmen Madelyn Freeman and Amelie Lo Jocano moved from the Cougars' #4 pair to #3 and went to the wire in back-to-back 21-17 losses, while Karlee Leary and Alexis Waltz dropped to #4 and, although they were also swept in two sets, scored a team-high 35 points after pushing the second set to a tiebreaker, 23-21.   Leary and Waltz also remained at the #4 spot for the Cougars' second match of the day, against 2023 Playoff team Mt San Antonio.  The Mounties also swept through the Cougars' ladder, however Leary and Waltz paced the team, again, by earning 29 total points.
