Beach Volleyball Travels to Ventura to Face Moorpark and Santa Monica

Beach Volleyball is looking for another Western State Conference win and has two WSC matches set for this Friday in Ventura.  The Cougars will not play the hometown Pirates but will face Moorpark and Santa Monica on neutral ground.  The Cougars are 3-13 in their inaugural season and are looking for few more wins during their second swing through the WSC.

Last week, both Ventura and Bakersfield swept Cuesta, 5-0, in Bakersfield last week but the Cougars battled all the way through both matches.  The Cougars moved Madelyn Freeman (pict-L) to #1 with Bailey Woodside and the duo posted 35 points in their two-set loss, 21-18 and 21-17.  The Cougars also pushed the Pirates at #5 pairs as the Cougars' winningest player Amelie Lo Jocano (pict-R) teamed with Olivia Sprouse to force overtime in the first set, before falling in straight sets, 24-22 and 21-17.  After the loss the Cougars went back-to-back and stayed on the sand to play a rested Bakersfield.  The Cougars moved Lo Jocano and Sprouse up to #4, but still found hope at the bottom of the ladder.  The Cougars first four teams all went down in straight sets, but Naima Omega and Remy Campbell won their opening set, 24-22, and pushed the match to a final game before falling, 21-13 and 15-7.

This week in Ventura the Cougars open against Moorpark (Noon) and close with the Corsairs (2 PM).  Cuesta's whole ladder fell to the Raiders in straight sets during their first meeting, but they had a better time against the Corsairs.  Cuesta went 1-4 against Santa Monica two weeks ago, with Lo Jocano and Sprouse winning in straight sets at #4, while Campbell paired with Cassidy Randall to battle into a third set at #5.
