Beach Volleyball Splits On Final Day of WSC Play

Beach Volleyball completed its inaugural regular season by splitting a pair of sweeps with the Vaqueros in Ventura.  Cuesta opened the day with a sweep of the Glendale Vaqueros, 5-0, but were swept in turn by the Santa Barbara City Vaqueros, 5-0, in the nightcap.  Glendale was only able to field two teams for the day, so the Cougars received three forfeits and claimed the match before they hit the sand. Glendale's two teams came to play and battled the Cougars to three sets in both matches. Cuesta's #1 team of Bailey Woodside and Madelyn Freeman won on sand, despite being pushed to three sets (21-12, 18-21, 15-10).  Freshman Amelie Lo Jocano and Olivia Sprouse were also extended at the #2 pairing.  The duo started slowly and dropped their first set, but outscored the Vaqs, 36-17, to close the match (17-21, 21-13, 15-4). The Cuesta Spikers finished their first season with a 4-16 overall record, which included a 2-10 record against the Western State Conference.

This weekend the "Sand Spikers" travel to Santa Monica for the two-day Western State Conference Pairs Tournament.
