Cuesta First Baseman Sean Rooney has accepted a scholarship to play for the University of Alabama-Huntsville.  Rooney enjoyed a standout career at Pioneer HS in San Jose, before spending his freshman season at DeAnza College.  He hit .295 for the Dons and was selected as an all-Coast Conference Catcher.  Last season, after transferring to Cuesta, the Cougars moved Rooney to First Base and he responded with a perfect fielding percentage and posted a .320 batting average.  He was one of only three Cuesta players to compete in all 20 games of the abbreviated season and had helped lead Cuesta to the top of the Western State Conference standings and into the State's Top 10 when the season abruptly ended.  Alabama-Huntsville will find a place for Rooney on the field and in their line-up as they try top pick up where they ended last season.  The Chargers were 16-5 overall and were in 1st place in the Gulf South Conference when the 2020 season closed.
