Baseball Falls to Undefeated Reedley, 7-4

Sometimes the ball doesn't bounce your way.  The preseason 10th-ranked Cuesta Cougars fell to #19 Reedley, 7-4, after the visiting Tigers scored thrice in their final at-bat.  Over the course of the game, Cuesta out-hit the Tigers, 11-9, and outslugged them too, with five extra-base hits to three, but the Cougars still dropped their fourth game in a row.  The start of the game looked good for Cuesta as they took the first lead of the game when Centerfielder Kayne Ross plated Catcher Dalton Cram on an RBI-double in the 2nd inning.  Both teams scored in the next frame with Reedley taking a brief lead with a pair of runs only to be overtaken by the Cougars' three-run 3rd-inning.  Reedley chipped away at the Cougars' advantage with a run in the 4th and another to tie the game in the 6th, before finally breaking through in their final at-bat.  The Tigers led off the 9th-inning with a single, which was followed by an error on an attempted sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk to load the bases with two outs.  A bloop infield single and throwing error cleared the bases and decided the game as the Cougars went down in order in the bottom of the ninth inning.  Ross and Cram joined Rightfielder Mattias Sessing and Second Baseman Diego Murillo as all four Cuesta players enjoyed a multi-hit game.  Cram also added a pair of doubles, while both Murillo and Ross also slugged a bingle.  The Cougars are 1-5 on the season, while Reedley remains undefeated at 7-0.

The Cuesta Nine shall play a three-game series against NorCal's #10-ranked team College of the Sequoias to end the week.  The Cougars and Giants play in Visalia on Thursday (2 PM) and in SLO on Friday (2 PM) and Saturday (1 PM).  Cuesta also has a rematch against the Tigers next Tuesday in Reedley.
