Cuesta Baseball Stays Hot Against the WSC, Beat Oxnard, 13-1

Cuesta Baseball beat Western State Conference foe Oxnard, 13-1, to pick up the team's eighth straight victory against the WSC circuit.  The Cougars took advantage of some early Condor miscues to grab six unearned runs in the first three innings to take an early lead they would never relinquish.  Oxnard avoided the shutout with their lone tally in the 2nd inning.  The Condors were only able to scatter five hits over the next seven innings and never threatened the Cougars' lead.  Cuesta Starter Dane Truer (pict) made his first appearance on the Cougars' homefield since opening day and handed a 6-1 lead to Reliever Jake Robinson in the 5th inning.  Robinson was the first of three relievers on the day and authored two scoreless innings to earn the winning decision.  On offense, the Cougars finally earned a run after the 7th-innning stretch on Zach Tallerman's solo home run.  Cuesta put away any doubt of the eventual outcome with seven more runs in the 8th inning, including four from Tallerman's Grand Slam.  Tallerman and Shortstop Ryan Fenn led the Cougars' offense on the day.  Tallerman ended the day 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five driven in, while Fenn was 4-for-6, including a Triple, while scoring twice and driving in a run.

Cuesta improved to 16-11 on the season and their 12-2 record against the WSC gives them a three-game lead in the conference standings.  The Cougars play at Oxnard on Saturday (1 PM) and return home on Tuesday (2:30) to host Santa Barbara City, who is currently in second place in the WSC loop.
