Baseball Falls to SBCC in 11 Innings, 7-5

Cuesta's nine-game winning streak came to an end in an 11-inning loss to Santa Barbara City, 7-5.  The loss cuts the Cougars' lead in the Western State Conference standings to two games, over both the Vaqueros and Ventura, with eight games to play.  Both of today's starting pitchers were at top form, but also left the game well before the outcome was decided. Cuesta's Ben Broughton pitched into the 7th inning, allowing three runs, while the Vaqueros' Southpaw Aidan Garcia exited after the 5th inning with the game knotted at 2-2.  Cuesta Reliever Josh Souza replaced Broughton and was brilliant over the next four innings, however he was lifted after issuing a leadoff walk in the 11th inning.  The Cuesta Bullpen allowed that run to score, along with three others, and when the Cougars finally got back on offense they were trailing, 7-3.  Cuesta immediately went on the attack with a Double by Dalton Cram, a Single by Kayne Ross (pict) and an RBI-Single from Ethan Royal.  A coupler of walks and a couple of strikeouts later, Ross eventually scored with the bases still loaded.  The game ended on a bases-loaded pop-up to third base by the next batter and the Cougars' winning streak ended just shy of double-digits.  Royal led all hitters with four hits, while also adding pair of RBI.  Additionally, Cram joined Third Baseman Zach Tallerman and Second Sacker Diego Murillo with two hits apiece on the day.  The loss drops the Cougars to 17-12 overall and 13-3 against the WSC.

Cuesta hosts the Vaqueros again on Thursday (2:30) and the two teams travel to play in Santa Barbara on Friday (2:30).
