Cloud Reigns Over East LA In Tourney Opener, 7-2

Cuesta Starting Pitcher Jackson Cloud authored seven innings of shutout baseball against visiting East Los Angeles and helped the Cougars open the Cuesta/Hancock Spring Break Tournament with a victory, 7-2.  Cloud scatted five hits and struckout seven Huskies to improve to 6-1 on the season and dropped his team-best ERA to 1.77.  Of course, Cloud had some help from Cuesta's potent offense.  Shortstop Victor Heredia's (pict) solo home run in the first inning opened the game's scoring, while All-WSC Outfielder Mattias Sessing's three-run home run the next inning put the game out of reach.  The Huskies added a pair of runs, after the Cougars went to the bullpen, despite collecting only one hit over final two innings.  The victory improved the Cougars overall season record to 17-10-1.

The Cougars still have a pair of games remaining in the Cuesta/Hancock Spring Break Tournament, which are also their final non-conference contests of the regular season.  #6 Cuesta, hosts #5 Cypress tomorrow (2:30) and #15 Merced on Friday (1 PM).
