Cuesta Doomed By Miscues in Loss to #5 Cypress, 10-9

Cuesta entered the second day of the Cuesta/Hancock Spring Break Tournament on the strength of a three-game mini streak, where they outscored their opponents 31-6.  The 6th-ranked Cougars opened today's game against #5 Cypress in winning form with six runs in the 1st innning.  Cuesta, behind Starter Robinson Lardner and his batterymate Dalton Cram, entered the 4th inning with Lardner facing only ten batters in the first three innings and Cram loading up on offense with two hits and four RBI, but then the Chargers struck back.  Cypress climed back into contention with a pair of doubles and home run in the 4th to chase Lardner and cut the lead to 7-4.   The Chargers eventually caught and passed the Cougars after scoring five runs, including four unearned, on either side of the 7th inning stretch.  Cuesta, which had been held scoreless since the 3rd inning, scored twice in the 9th on Alex Hagen's RBI-double, but stranded pinch runner and potential tying run Brayden McCoy at 3rd base to end the game.  Sophomore Releiver Justin Vose was saddled with the loss, despite allowing only one earned run, while All State First Baseman Zachary Tallerman led the offense.  Tallerman went 4-for-5 on the day, inclduing a double while scoring once and driving in a pair of runs.  The setback against the Chargers dropped the Cougars overall record to 17-11-1 on the season.
