Baseball Regains the Top Spot in the WSC After Beating Oxnard, 10-6

Baseball hosted Oxnard for their final three-game series against the Western State Conference.  The visiting Condors opened the series with a bang, when Outfielder Thade Miller homered to open the game, but Cuesta claimed the lead in the bottom of the inning en route to the win, 10-6.  Cuesta Starter Jackson Cloud regrouped after Miller's round tripper and shutout the Condors for the next four innings and handed a four-run lead to the bullpen after the 6th.  Cloud, who struckout out seven Condors, earned the victory and improved to 7-1 on the season, while Reliever Matthew Hartford closed out the last three innings to earn his first save of the year.   On offense, the first six batters in Cuesta's lineup all enjoyed multi-hit games.  Reigning WSC Player of the Year Zachary Tallerman (pict-L) and all-WSC Outfielder Mattias Sessing (pict-R) added both multi-runs and multi-RBI to their line scores.  Tallerman, who connected for his team-high eighth home run of the season, scored twice and drove in two runs, while Sessing also scored twice, in addition to driving in a game-high four runs.  Tallerman and Sessing have each driven in 18 runs during WSC play, however Tallerman leads the team with 33 RBI on the season.  The victory allowed the Cougars to re-take the top spot in the WSC from local rival Allan Hancock, albeit by percentage points, .688 to .667.  The 7th-ranked Cougars are also 18-12-1 on the season and 11-5 in WSC play.

The Cuesta Batsmen travel to play at Oxnard on Thursday (2:30) and finish their series with the Condors back in SLO on Saturday (1 PM)
