Baseball Falls Even in Loss to Riverside, 6-2, Deciding Game Set for Noon Tomorrow

Cuesta Baseball took its first loss of the season as Riverside evened their three-game series with Cougars, 6-2.  The visiting Tigers took advantage of a Cuesta error in the first inning to take an early lead and never let it go.  Cuesta Starter Woody Brennan returned to the hill, after redshirting in 2023, and allowed only one earned run over six strong innings of work but was still saddled with the loss.  Cuesta did not score until the 8th-inning, when Freshman Outfielder Jack Clothier's two-run home run cut Riverside's in half, 4-2.  The Tigers then added a run in each of the last two innings to claim the win, 6-2.  Clothier's clout was one of only three hits on the day for the Cougars, including a single each for Sophomores Diego Murillo and Anthony Cannavino.  Riverside's Player of the Game was Designated Hitter Richard Tejeda, who equaled the Cougars' hit total by leading all batters with three hits in the game.  The Cougars and Tigers are both 1-1 on the season.

Cuesta and Riverside, ranked 25 and 11th, respectively, in the pre-season polls finish their season opening series on Sunday (Noon)
