Baseball Splits Day 2 with Saddleback, 5-1 and 10-11

Baseball continued their series against top-ranked Saddleback with a doubleheader.  The Cougars, who also beat the #1-ranked Bobcats yesterday, split today's twinbill.  Cuesta won today's opener, 5-1, with a lot of help from Starting Pitcher Andrew Seibert's (pict) right arm.  Seibert scattered three hits and faced only three batters above the minimum in his complete game victory.  Cuesta also jumped out early in the finale by building a 6-1 lead over the first three innings, however Coach Bob Miller unleashed his bullpen with seven pitchers making an appearance in the game.  The top-ranked Bobcats finally broke through with six runs in the 7th to tie the game and two teams entered the final frame knotted at 9-all. Saddleback connected on back-to-back RBI-singles to take a two-run lead with three outs left in the contest.  The Cougars scored one more run in their half of the 9th, but Saddleback was able to salvage the win, 11-10.  The loss dropped the Cougars to 7-4 on the season.

The Cougars open their 2024 Western State Conference schedule with three games against Santa Barbara City next week.  The Cougars are set to host the Vaqueros on Tuesday (2 PM) and Saturday (1 PM), while playing the sandwich game in Santa Barbara on Wednesday (2 PM).
