Cuesta Baseball has reached the post-season for the past three campaigns and, prior to the pandemic had garnered a playoff berth in 15 of Coach Bob Miller's first 17 full seasons at the helm. The Cougars came out of the pandemic to win back-to-back Western State Conference titles and reached the second round of playoffs last season, after finishing 2nd in the Western State Conference, despite improving their conference record from the previous season. This year they are poised to chase another WSC title and make another deep run into the post-season. The Cougars bring back all-WSC Pitchers Andrew Seibert, Jackson Howell and Lukas Ward to lead their rotation. They also boast an all-WSC Double-play combination with Second Sacker Sean Strittmatter joining 2023 First Team Shortstop Victor Heredia (pict), who Redshirted last season, in the pivot. This double-play combination is also expected to add some power to the Cougars' line-up. Out in the yard, all-WSC First Team and WSC Gold Glove winner Makani Nabarro shall ignite the offense and guide the defense, while helping his fellow ball chasers handle the high skies and hard winds from Morro Bay.
The Cougars open their 2025 campaign on the road against Riverside this weekend. The Tigers, like the Cougars, reached the 2024 CCCAA Super Regionals last season, but also fell short of the CCCAA State Championship. Cuesta's Coach Miller joined the Cougars' Staff after helping the Tigers knock Cuesta out of the 2002 CCCAA Final Four, but since he became a Cougar, the two teams have consistently opened their seasons with a "cat fight". Cuesta took two of their three games last season and, after losing five of the first six meetings, over the past decade Cuesta has caught up and only trails the Tigers, 15-13. It is the Cougars turn to travel, and they shall play their three-game series over three days in Riverside - Friday (2 PM), Saturday (2 PM) and Sunday (Noon).
