Cuesta Baseball Splits Twinbill with Orange Coast

Cuesta Baseball completed their three-game series with Orange Coast College, after condensing it from a three-day series to just Friday and Saturday, while agreeing that one of the Saturday games would be an abbreviated seven-inning affair.  The Cougars and Pirates were locked in a 3-3 tie after the first seven innings of today's opener, so that game went the full nine.  Orange Coast looked to take the lead and put the game away with a pair of runs in the 8th, but Cuesta claimed the contest, 6-5, on the strength of First Baseman Tristan Usher's towering two-run, bottom of the 9th walk-off blast.  In the series finale, now limited to seven innings, the Cougars did not have the opportunity for more bottom of the ninth heroics.  The Cougars scored first, when Jak Sinclair scored on a wild pitch and his run marked the difference in the contest, until the Bucs rallied for five hits and three runs in the 5th inning.  Cuesta posted another run in the 5th but fell, 4-2.  The Cougars are now 2-5 on the season.

Cuesta continues its homestand on Tuesday (2 PM), when they host Reedley for a non-conference contest.  This is the second meeting of the season for the Cougars and Tigers, as Cuesta picked up a road win, 10-1, at Reedley on February 3.  The Cougars shall return to the road for a three-game series in Mission Viejo against Saddleback over Valentine's weekend- February 13-15.
