Cuesta Baseball hosted Los Angeles Pierce and immediately got to work avenging Tuesday's setback, 15-2, in Woodland Hills. The visiting Brahmas struck first with run to open the game, but, in their turn at the place, the Cougars' Designated Hitter Jacob Johnson slugged a three-run homer to give Cuesta the lead for good. The Cougars tied their season-high by pounded out 19 hits in the game, as seven players enjoyed a multi-hit game: including Johnson, First Baseman Tristan Usher and their all-WSC Double-play combination of Shortstop Victor Heredia and Second Sacker Sean Strittmatter. Johnson was also joined by Usher and Outfielders Aidan Botti (pict) and Jak Sinclair as the batsmen each contributed to a team season-high four home runs in the game. On the mound, Righthander Justin Cortez posted six strikeouts and allowed only two earned runs, before handing the game off to Reliever Chase Viale. Viale was unhittable as he saved Cortez's victory. He did not allow a hit during his 3.1 innings on the mound and recorded eight of the game's last ten outs by strikeout. The victory moved the Cougars to 15-13 on the season and 9-5 in Western State Conference play.
The Cougars return to Woodland Hills on Friday (2 PM) to complete this week's series. The Brahmas shall return to SLO during the final week of the regular season, April 22, to complete their conference designated four-game set.
