Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for March is Baseball's Tristan Usher.
Freshman First Baseman Tristan Usher has anchored the right-side of the Cougars' infield and powered the middle of their batting order all season. Usher is battling .360 overall, including a .412 clip, at 22-for-51, during Western State Conference play. He enjoyed a productive March, while crushing five home runs during the month. He leads the team with 19 extra-base hits on the year, however his penchant for the longball also has him tied for 6th in the State with nine round-trippers on the season. Usher was flawless in the field last month and his only miscue of the season occurred in February during the Cougars' win over Oxnard, 19-3. He has also spent six innings on the mound, including a scoreless outing to close a Cuesta victory over Los Angeles Pierce on March 28.
Cuesta is currently 1.5 games out of first place in the Western State Conference with eight games remaining against the circuit. The Cougars are chasing their sixth straight playoff berth and their 19th overall in Coach Bob Miller's 21 complete seasons.
