Baseball Takes Opener Against Long Beach City, 11-7

Cuesta Baseball is hosting Long Beach City for two games, as both teams enjoy a break from their conference scheduled. The Vikings are currently a half-game out of second place in the South Coast Conference, while the Cougars sit atop the Western State Conference North standings, also by a half-game.  The Cougars opened the day's scoring on Outfielder Jak Sinclair's (pict) Sacrifice Fly in the 2nd inning and added another run on First Baseman Tristan Usher's RBI single the next inning.  Long Beach evened the game with two runs in the 4th, but Cuesta answered when Sinclair walloped a solo home run to take back the lead and ignite a four-run inning that secured the Cougars' eventual victory, 11-7.  Cuesta Starter Justin Cortez handed a 6-5 lead to the bullpen in the 6th and Relievers Lukas Ward and Victor Heredia locked down the victory.  Cortez improved to 7-3 on the season, while Heredia, who began the game at Shortstop, picked up his fourth Save.  Sinclair and Heredia both enjoined a three-hit game at the plate to lead the Cougars' attack.   Sinclair also added three RBI, while Corner Infielders Tristan Usher and AJ Martinez each drove in a pair of runs.  The victory boosted Cuesta's season record to 20-13 over and marked Coach Bob Miller's 19th season with, at least, 20-wins over his 21 full seasons* at the helm.

Cuesta shall also host Long Beach City tomorrow (Noon), Saturday, to complete their series.  The Cougars return to their Western State Conference schedule on Tuesday (2 PM), when they travel to Oxnard for their final meeting against the Condors.  They will also host Santa Barbara on Thursday (2 PM) and play AT Ventura on Friday (2 PM)

*Cuesta Baseball also played pandemic abbreviated seasons in 2019 and 2020.
