Men's Basketball opened their 2023 Home Motors Tournament with their highest scoring regulation game of the season with 91 points against visiting Barstow. The Cougars have eclipsed the century-mark twice this season, but they were both overtime games, however tonight the Cougars were hot enough to push for triple-digits in regulation. Cuesta jumped out against visiting Barstow with 48 points in the first half and took a 15-point lead into the intermission, 48-33. 2023 All-WSC First Team Guard Drew Ardouin (pict-L) and Freshman Power Forward Ethan Walker (pict-R) were the Cougars' Mr. Outside and Mr. Inside, respectively, for the day. Ardouin was everywhere on the floor. He led all scorers with 29 points, including five three-pointers, while also posting game-highs with six assists, a dozen rebounds and four steals. Walker was one rebound short of his own double-double and was unstoppable in the paint on both offense and defense. He was a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, on his way to 16 points, while also pairing six blocked shots and nine rebounds. Freshman Forward TJ Maveety also stood out for his all-around play. Maveety corralled 10 rebounds and tied Ardouin with a game-high six assists to go with his eight points. Today's victory moved the Cougars' season record to 3-8.
Cuesta's Home Motors Classic continues with two games tomorrow. Barstow will lead the day off against Santa Barbara City at 3 PM, while the Cougars host Hartnell at 5 PM.
