Cougars Win the San Mateo Fall Classic; In Mendocino This Week

Cuesta Men's Basketball bounced back after a tough home tournament to win the San Mateo Fall Classic.  The Cougars travelled to the Bay Area to play in the tournament against host San Mateo and DeAnza. Cuesta opened against their host on Thursday and squeaked out a victory over San Mateo, 62-61.  Three of the Cougars' starters scored in double-digits in the contests with Center Alessandro Perotti leading Cuesta with both 18 points and six rebounds, while Forward Corbin Rossi and Guard Shinichi Itoh netted 13 and 11 points, respectively.  The same trio led the Cougars on Saturday night, with Itoh pacing the squad with 16 points. Rossi and Guard Lorenzo Ceffoli both added a dozen points, while Perotti netted 11 more.  The Cougars are 3-2 after the first two weeks of the season.

The Cagers travel to Ukiah this weekend for the three-day Mendocino Tournament.  The Cougars open against the College of the Siskiyous on Thursday (8 PM).  The tournament is an old-style bracket advancement tournament, so after the matchups for the second and third days are determined by the previous evening's contest.
