Cuesta Men's Basketball is back in action this Saturday (3 PM) to host the Cabrillo Seahawks in historic Stork Gym. The Seahawks are currently 4-2 on the season and ranked #24 in current CCCBCA Poll, while the Cougars, though unranked, have opened the 2024-25 campaign by winning five of their first eight starts. The two teams were once Coast Conference rivals and, despite Cuesta leaving the circuit in 1983, they have scheduled a non-conference, non-regional meeting for the past seven seasons. The Seahawks own a 4-1 advantage, but they have split their last two meetings, while the 2020 pairing was cancelled. The showdown with the Seahawks marks the Cougars' final home contest until 2025, when Cuesta hosts Glendale in their final non-conference on contest of January 4.
Last week the Cougars hit the road to Ukiah for the three-day Mendocino Tournament. The road-weary Cougars dropped their tournament opener to Siskiyous, 64-61, by one long basket, but came back strong over the next two days. Cuesta earned a solid win over Sacramento, 70-59, on Saturday and closed out the event with a narrow win over American River, 60-59, in a rare Sunday event. Cuesta is 5-3 on the season and holds the19th spot on the Southern Region's RPI rankings.
