Men's Basketball completed its pre-conference schedule with an interdivisional overtime victory versus WSC-South member Glendale, 85-81. The visiting Vaqueros took an early lead and led by seven points, 33-26, going into halftime. Cuesta's halftime adjustments included using their height advantage. The Vaqueros could not boast a player over 6' 5", so the Cougars went to their standout Center Alessandro Perotti (pict-R), who scored 22 points after the intermission to lead the comeback. Perotti finished with game and career highs of 28 points and 24 rebounds in the contest. The Cougars' "Big Man" from Torino, Italy also got some help Freshmen Guards Corbin Rossi (pict-L) and Shinichi Itoh. Rossi and Itoh also reached double-digits in scoring with 23 and 17 points, respectively, while Nigel Dickens led the Vaqueros' efforts with 23 points. The triumph capped the Cougars' Pre-Conference schedule 11-5 overall record, and they shall enter conference play with a spot in the State's Top 30 (Dec. 30) at #27 overall.
Cuesta opens Western State Conference play on January 11 in Santa Maria with a men's and women's doubleheader against local rival Allan Hancock (3 PM). They return to Stork Gym on the following Wednesday for another WSC Twinbill against #28 Moorpark.
