Cuesta Men's Basketball has only two games remaining in the 2024-25 campaign. The Cougars are on the road to Woodland Hills this Wednesday (7 PM) for a game with Los Angeles Pierce and then return home to close out the regular season against Santa Barbara on Friday (7 PM). Cuesta beat both teams during their first swing through the Western State Conference and their two foes are a combined 4-17 in conference play, but they would also love to spoil the Cougars' shot at a conference title or playoff berth. Cuesta is currently one-game out of first place in the WSC with two games to play with a possible playoff berth on the line. A strong finish by the Cougars should put them in contention for their first conference title since the pandemic and earn them a playoff bid among the CCCAA South Region's Top 24. The Cougars are only one season removed from their last playoff bid in 2023 and are chasing their program's 21st post-season of Coach Rusty Blair's 33-year tenure, as well as the program's 26th since its rookie season in 1965-66. Assistant Coach Danijel Mihailovic has been working the sidelines with Blair and infused a lot of energy into the Cougars' chase for a WSC Crown and run into the playoffs. The duo should be able to extend the season this week!
The regular season finale is on Friday, NOT Saturday, at 7 PM. This change has been in effect for the past decade and allows the conference and regional seeding meetings to take place over the course of the weekend. The Top 24 teams shall be seeded in the playoffs with each conference champion earning an automatic bid. In the WSC Table, the Cougars, with two games to play, are one-game behind first place Oxnard and a half-game behind local rival Allan Hancock. Cuesta with two wins and some help from other conference teams, remain in the title hunt.
