Men's Swimming placed 7th at the 2023 CCCAA State Championship last weekend in East LA. Returning All American Stash Perry (pict-L) led the Cougars with 37 individual points and posted the team's top finish with a Bronze in the 200-freestyle (1:40.66). Perry, who also placed 5th in the 1,650-freestyle (16:24.09) and 10th in the 500-freestyle (4:42.08), holds the Cuesta record in all three events. He should also repeat as an All American in multiple events, once the CCCAA times are merged with the NJCAA's to establish a national Top 16. Freshman Ethan Merritt (pict-R) joined Perry as the only other Cuesta swimmer to reach the championship finals in an individual event and is another potential All American. Merritt finished 7th in the 200-breaststroke (2:08.25) and 8th in the 100-breaststroke (:57.16). He ranks 2nd all time at Cuesta in the 100-breaststroke, behind current teammate Andrew Lopez, who was 3rd on the team with 16 points. Lopez, who scored 40 points in 2022, enjoyed his best finish of 2023 with a 10th place in the 200-breaststroke. Cuesta men's swimming has placed in every CCCAA State Championship since records began being kept in 1990 and the team also added ten new Cuesta All-Time Top 10 marks during the 2023 season.
