Cuesta Aquatics Opens the Season at WSC Preview in Ventura

The Cuesta Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams opened the 2025 campaign at the friendly Western State Conference Preview in Ventura last weekend.  The event was a one-day event at the Ventura Aquatic Center and all ten members of the WSC were represented. 

The Cuesta Men's Swim & Dive team has won the past four WSC Titles and are currently favored to add the program's 20th overall, after winning the preview meet.  The men amassed 545 points overall and outscored Runner-up Bakersfield by 144 points.  The Cougars claimed six event titles in the event, while also adding three runner-up and a quartet of bronzes as they medaled in all 13 events.  Freshman Grant Huston was the Cougars' only individual to win an even, however he claimed an impressive four titles to open his collegiate career.  Huston won the 100 (:46.20), 200 (1:41.23), and 500 (4:49.46) freestyles, while also adding the 100-breaststroke (:59.86).  Returning All American Conner Rocha and Freshman Beau Gendron added a Silver (:22.46) and Bronze (:22.77), respectively, in the 50-freestlye.  Rocha also added a Bronze in the 100-butterfly (:55.28), while Gendron claimed his second Bronze in the 100-breastroke (1:05.80).  

The Cuesta Women's Swim & Dive team claimed only one event on the day but finished with 263.5 points for the team Silver.  All-WSC Returner Madison Corrigan led the Cougars by taking  a Bronze in the 100-breastroke (1:19.38) and earning another Bronze, when she joined Annika Pauschek, Marcella Fabre and Kailey Ardouin in the 200-Medley Relay.  

The Aqua-cats have a two-week break before hosting the first of three Western State Conference Mini Meets on February 21.
