Cuesta Track & Field Returns to Lancaster for WSC Prelims

It has been two weeks since Cuesta Men's Track & Field opened its 2021 season at Antelope Valley College and the Cougars return to Lancaster this Friday (10 AM) for the 2021 Western State Conference Preliminary Meet.  The men's team posted four Cuesta All Time Top 10 marks in their opening meet, so the Cougars plan to move a large contingent onto the 2021 WSC Finals in Bakersfield next week.  Freshman Thrower Gabriel Katches now holds the Cuesta Shot Put record after breaking Austin Field's 2011 record of 153' 2" by nearly nine feet with a throw of 162' 7.25".  Katches is also sitting at the #7 spot all time in the Shot Put (47' 4.5").  Fellow Thrower Luke McMahon also improved his 2020 Hammer Throw by 36-feet to move up to 6th all time at 151' 11.25".  Both are ranked #1 in the conference going into the Prelims, while Freshman Hurdler Zachary Egan leads the WSC pack in the 400-hurdles (1:01.10).   Leaper Thomas Rodda leads the WSC and landed 9th all time at Cuesta in the Triple Jump with a leap of 44' 0.75", however he still trails teammate and #5 all time Darius Jackson.  Jackson is still rounding into form; but did post a mark of 44' 9" before the pandemic.  In all, the Cougars boast ten athletes poised to medal during over the next two weeks during the WSC's preliminary and finals.
