Cuesta Harrier Weston Greenelsh closed his first year at Cuesta the same way he opened it, with a CCCAA State Title.  The Harrier burst onto the scene last Fall on his way to winning the CCCAA State Cross Country Championship by nearly ten seconds.  This Spring he pushed his way towards the front of the pack in three events the 800, 1,500 and, 5000-meter runs.  His time of 1:53.67 in the 800m ranks third all-time at Cuesta, but he passed on that event to concentrate on the 1,500 and 5,000- meter runs.  He took a Silver in the "metric mile" with a time of 4:01.36 and became the Cougars' first-known (records from 1996) State Champion on the track, after clearing the course in 15:27.04.  Greenelsh's second State Title of his freshman season put him in rare company among Cuesta Athletes.  He is now paired with fellow Harrier Miranda Daschian, who won both a CCCAA State title for Cross Country and the 5,000m in 2016-17, and Aquatic Star Chris Lund, who was named the 1998 CCCAA State Water Polo Player of the Year, before winning a CCCAA State title in the 200-butterfly during the Spring.
