Sophomore Aquatic Star Steven Chapman has accepted a scholarship to Fresno-Pacific University. Chapman was a two-time all-Western State Conference performer for water polo and also earned all-WSC honors in swimming as a freshman. Chapman was a top recruit out of Porterville HS and spent his freshman year as a Redshirt at Pepperdine University. He transferred to Cuesta and has spent the past two seasons starring for the Cougars. He made an immediate impact as a redshirt-freshman for water polo and was third on the team with 49 goals, while earning all-Western State Conference Second Team honors in 2018. He followed that up by earning all-WSC honors in swimming for both the 100-backstroke (5th) and 200-backstroke (3rd), while qualifying for the 2019 CCCAA State Swim & Dive Championships on the relays. Chapman endured an injury-plagued sophomore water polo season, but still helped lead Men's Water Polo to a Western State Conference title and its 41st straight playoff berth. Chapman was named 2019 all-WSC Honorable Mention, despite playing in only 22 games for the 26-9 Cougars. He added 13 goals as a sophomore. Chapman was also enjoying another strong swim season, prior to the suspension of spring sports, and was poised to earn his fourth straight season with all-WSC accolades. His time of :25.20 in the 50-backstroke is a new Cuesta Men's Swim & Dive record and he also owned the 2020 team's best times for the 100-backstroke (:56.65), 200-backstroke (2:11.49), and 100-individual medley (:58.77).
Fresno-Pacific competes in the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) for water polo and swims in the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference (PCSC). Chapman is a three-time all-WSC academic selection and is expected to compete for the Sunbirds in both sports.
