Goaltender Mason Smith Commits to San Jose State

Cuesta's Star Goalie Mason Smith has accepted a scholarship to play at San Jose State. Smith came to Cuesta from Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield and enjoyed an outstanding career for the Cougars.  He is a two-time All Western State Conference First Team selection and was twice named All-CCCAA State Second Team, while adding All America honors this season.  Smith led a contingent of three goalies on the Cougars' squad that became an undeniable strength of the team, however in the big games it all came down to Smith.    Smith was only 9-4 in the goal for the 26-win Cougars, but was in the nets for the biggest games of the season.  He led Cuesta with 138 saves and joins an elite group of Cuesta Goaltenders as only the eighth two-time All State selection in the program's 41 seasons.  Smith's 306 career saves places him 13th all time at Cuesta.

San Jose State plays in the Golden Coast Conference and is coached by CCCAA Hall of Famer Bruce Watson. Smith joins a Spartan squad that was 8-19 overall and 5th in GCC.
