Men's Water Polo Beats Ventura to Extend WSC Winning Streak to 16 games

Men's Water Polo opened its 2023 Western State Conference right where they left off, with another win.  The Cougars have not dropped a game against the circuit since 2019, when they began their streak of three straight titles.  Today, Cuesta's 10th-ranked Poloists, under new Head Coach Greg Enloe, made short work of the visiting Ventura Pirates, 19-4.  The Cougars improved to 9-4 on the season and 1-0 against the WSC loop.  Freshman Driver Oliver Finley led the Cougars' attack with a career-high five goals, while fellow Driver Jake Escobar and Center Dante Ianora each added a "hat trick" to the Cougars' tally.  The victory improved Cuesta's overall record to 9-4 overall and extends their conference winning streak to 16 games.  The Cougars last WSC setback came on October 2, 2019, against Los Angeles Valley, however the Cougars bounced back to beat the Monarch's a month later to claim the WSC Crown.  Cuesta previously set the circuit's record by compiling a 49-game Western State Conference winning streak from 1988 to 1995.

The Cougars travel South next week for a three-day, six-game road trip. On Thursday, the Cougars play two more Western State Conference games, when they join a WSC Mini tournament at Santa Monica.  The Cougars face Citrus in the tournament opener (12:30) and close the day against the host Corsairs (2:50).  The team shall remain in the "greater Los Angeles Area" for the two-day Cal Baptist Tournament.  On Friday, the Cougars play two games at the La Mirada Splash, versus Westcliff (9:45) and the University of Toronto (12:45).  On Saturday, Cuesta travels to play on the Cal Baptist campus in Riverside.  They shall play Concordia-Irvine (10 AM) and close the trip against Redlands (3:30), before returning to the Central Coast.
