Cuesta College Athletics Department is proud to announce this month's selections for the Cuesta Athlete of the Month. This distinct honor recognizes two Cuesta College Athletes each month during the school year who have performed to the highest standards in their sport. Our male selection for September is Water Polo Center Dante Ianora.
Dante, a redshirt sophomore, is one of Cuesta's Captains and is one of the team leaders as the program endured the first month of the season without a head coach. The Cougars opened the 2023 campaign with an undefeated Merced Tournament title and ended the month by going 3-1 at their 44th Cuesta Invitational Tournament. That weekend, Cuesta also welcomed Head Coach Greg Enloe, the program's third, so, finally, Ianora was done with practice plans, tournament schedules and room assignments. All he had to do was play and he enjoyed his best week of the season. He led the 8th-ranked Cougars with 13 goals as the team went 3-1 on the weekend, including wins over #5 Long Beach and #11 Riverside. He currently leads the team with 40 goals over their first dozen games, while also surpassing his freshman goal total of 34 tallies.
The Cougars are chasing their 31st Western State Conference title and 44th straight playoff berth. They are currently ranked #8 in the State.
