Men's Water Polo Chasing a Conference Title for the Ages

Men's Water Polo battled their Alumni to a 12-12 tie in regulation last Saturday, while eventually laying claim to the unofficial crown in a shootout.  The men's team has been firing on all cylinders since the arrival of the program's third Head Coach Greg Enloe in mid-October.  The Cougars began the season with a 5-3 record and have gone 12-8 under Enloe, while settling back atop of the Western State Conference Standings.  The Cougars, the three-time defending WSC Champions, are currently undefeated against the circuit, however this year's tournament is also hosted at Los Angeles Valley College.  Cuesta has shared the past dozen WSC Crowns with the host Monarchs, however the 7th-ranked Cougars also beat #9 LA Valley, 13-9, at SLO in mid-October.  The Cougars open the WSC Championships against the winner of Wednesday's play-in game between #4-seed Ventura and #5-seed Santa Monica on Friday (10 AM).  The Cougars beat the 4th-seeded Pirates, 19-4, in their first meeting, while also beating the Santa Monica Corsairs, 17-4.  The winner of the that game advances to the title game on Saturday (1:45).  The Third-Place game is scheduled for 11:15 that morning.

Cuesta Men's Water Polo began in 1979 and has never missed the playoffs or endured a losing season.  The program had amassed 981 victories over its first 44 seasons and the program is closing in on its 1,000th victory.  If the Cougars can win the two games needed to capture their 4th straight WSC Crown, and 31st overall, they will also earn the program's 44th straight playoff berth, as well as its 1,000th victory.  The Cougars are currently 17-11 on the season.
