Cuesta Water Polo begins this week with Western State Conference play. The men's and women's open the week on Wednesday with a WSC Doubleheader at Ventura. The game against the Pirates is the first WSC game of the season for the men, however the women previously dropped a game to Santa Barbara City, which does not offer men's water polo. The men's team has claimed the last four WSC Crowns and the program's 30 conference titles since 1979 are more than any other team on campus. The women reached the playoffs after each of their last five full seasons but are chasing their first conference crown since 2007.
After Wednesday's game in Ventura, Cuesta's Poloists shall head in opposite directions. The men shall continue South for a full week of action in Southern California, while the women return to SLO.
The men are scheduled to play a broken twinbill on Thursday, with a morning game at the University of Southern California (11 AM) and an evening game at Occidental College (6 PM). On Friday, Cuesta will be in Riverside for Cal Baptist's Lancer Joust Tournament. They open the first day with Whittier (10 AM) and close against Saddleback (4 PM). On Saturday, Cuesta plays Golden West (10:50) and Biola (4:10). The Cougars, currently ranked #7 in the State, games against unranked Ventura, #2 Golden West and #9 Saddleback are all CCCAA games and are part of the post-season criteria and seeding.
The women shall return home after the Ventura game to host their own Cuesta Invitational. On Friday, the Cougars, who were 12th in this week's voting, open against #9 Saddleback (11:20) and close the day against unranked Las Positas (2:30). On Saturday, the Cougars are set to play Cal Poly "A" (10:20) and Cal Poly "B" (2:40).
