Freshman Driver Johnny Starr stepped up at the 2024 Western State Conference Championships to help the Cougars win the program's 31st title, while clinching its 44th consecutive post-season berth. Starr posted a "hat trick" in the Cougars win over host Citrus, 14-11, in Friday's semi-final and scored twice in the WSC Title Game against LA Valley, including the deciding goal with just 23 seconds left on the clock. Starr has blossomed over the course of the season. He scored in only four of his first ten games of the year but has enjoyed multi-goal games in seven of his last eight contests. He is now one of five Cuesta players with 50 or more goals on the season and also leads the Cougars' defense with a team-high 36 steals.
