Former Cuesta College Athlete of the Year Karl Blum is back on the bench for the Cougars. Blum led the Cougars to a pair of conference titles and playoff berths as a two-time all-American for the Cougars and has returned for his second stint on the bench. Blum left Cuesta to finish his degree and collegiate career at UC Santa Barbara, where he was named Team Captain for the Gauchos. He returned to Cuesta as an Assistant Coach in 1990. In his first year back in SLO, he helped lead the Cougars to another conference crown and into the CCCAA State Championship Game. Blum recently retired as the Principal at Los Osos Middle School and is back on deck with the Cougars. He is also the father of two former Cuesta athletes- Hannah and Ethan Blum. Hannah swam for the Cougars in 2020, while Ethan both played water polo and swam for two seasons.
Karl currently resides in nearby Grover Beach with his wife Carolyn.
