2019 State Qualifier Colby Ratzat
Cuesta Men's Cross Country finished in 7th place at the 2019 Western State Conference Championships, but missed the CCCAA State Championship as a team for only the third time since Coach Brian Locher took over the program in 2007.  Freshman Colby Ratzat (Cayucos: Morro Bay HS- PICT) and Sophomore Melecio Gonzalez (McFarland HS) were both named to the 2019 All-Western State Conference Second Team.  Gonzalez, a 2018 CCCAA State Meet participant, led the Cougars in four of their first five races, but Ratzat improved all season and ended up the Cougars' lone State Qualifier.   Gonzalez finished 18th at the 2019 Western State Conference Championships, while Ratzat landed in 21st place.  In the regional meet, Ratzat finished 17 seconds ahead of Gonzalez to qualify as an individual for the CCCAA State Meet in 86th place.  Ratzat made a huge jump at the 2019 CCCAA State Meet, he leaped from 86th place in the regional to 46th place at State.  His time of 21:44.1 was a drop of more than four minutes off his first race of the season.
