Cuesta College's kick-off the department's first regular season competition this Friday with the Tour de Cuesta on the Fairbanks Cross Country Course. The Cougars will be joined by local rivals Allan Hancock and Bakersfield, while Santiago Canyon and Saddleback shall make the trek from Orange Country. The Bobcats are an event mainstay, thanks to Coaches Matt Sherman and Mark Blethen, who both began their coaching careers at Cuesta College.
Cuesta Coach Robert Neely has both his teams at full strength this season. Cuesta's men are loaded with young talent on an all-freshmen squad. San Luis Obispo High product Weston Greenelsh helped the Tigers win a pair of CIF titles, while down in Arroyo Grande his new teammates JP Walsh and Nick York were claiming a Mountain League title. York also picked all-Mountain League First Team accolades. The Cougars are also hoping for big things from fellow Freshman Aiden Gibson. Gibson competed at nearby Paso Robles HS and is the son of former Cuesta Star and two-time CCCAA State Qualifier Tyler Gibson. Freshman David Maya-Shelton arrived at Cuesta from Kensington, Maryland and completes the Cougars' scoring team.
