Cuesta Softballers Control their Playoff Destiny

Cuesta Softball is currently in second place in the Western State Conference with a one-game lead over third place Santa Barbara, but two games behind loop-leading Moorpark.  Last week in Santa Barbara, the Vaqueros closed the gap with one-run victory over the Cougars, 8-7.  The WSC receives two automatic playoff berths and currently undefeated Moorpark, with three games left, appears to be a lock, while the Cuesta Cougars (9-2), Santa Barbara City Vaqueros (8-3) and Allan Hancock Bulldogs (7-4) are all entertaining visions of second seed and post-season glory.  Cuesta and Santa Barbara both play Moorpark again, who has allowed only ten runs in WSC play- three to Santa Barbara and seven in two wins over Allan Hancock.  The Bulldogs end their season against WSC cellar-dweller Santa Monica and Ventura before a season-ending showdown with the Vaqueros.  Beyond the Bulldogs, the Vaqueros also face Oxnard and Moorpark to end their WSC schedule.  The Cougars conclude the regular season with another showdown with the Moorpark Raiders but can control their destiny when they host both Pierce and Santa Monica this week.  Cuesta hosts Los Angeles Pierce on Tuesday (2:30) and Santa Monica on Thursday (2:30).  Cuesta squeaked out a victory, 4-3, when they faced the Brahmas in Woodland Hills a month ago, but pounded Santa Monica, 31-3, in their first meeting.  Cuesta is chasing its first playoff berth since 2015.  The Cougars are 20-14 overall and enjoying their second straight 20-win season under Coach Jenel Guadagno.
