Cuesta Softball Opens Playoffs at Canyons Tomorrow

Cuesta Softball returns to the post-season for the first time since 2015, but the Cougars did not receive a warm welcome back from the seeding committee.  Cuesta finished 2nd in the Western State Conference-North and boasted a 22-15 overall recored, including an 11-3 mark against the WSC, but was still saddled with the 18th and final seed in the CCCAA Regional Playoffs.  The Cougars travel to Santa Clarita on Tuesday (2 PM), April 30, for a Regional Play-in game against #15-seed College of the Canyons.  Canyons finished with 16-24 overall record and in 5th place in the WSC-South.The two teams are not unfamilar with eachother, Cuesta and Canyons split a doubleheader in Santa Clarita on March 25.  Cuesta came in and beat the host Cougars, 9-5, however Canyons bounced back and scored the last three runs in the nightcap to win and split with the day with the visiting Cougars, 13-12.  If Cuesta can win another game against Canyons, they will travel to Fullerton fora best-of-three series this Friday and Saturday.  The Hornets are the top ranked team in the CCCAA Regional Playoffs, after winning the Orange Empire Conference title and posted in a 36-4 regular season record.  Cuesta and Canyons have never faced eachother in a post-season contest, however, should Cuesta prevail tomorrow, they are undefeated against Fullerton in post-season play.  Cuesta beat Fullerton twice in the 2006 Regional Playoff to advance to the Cougars' first, and so far only, trip the CCCAA State Tournament
