Cuesta Softball's well planned season schedule has been upended by the weather, so they are squeezing in non-conference contests into their conference schedule. The Cougars have stayed sharp, despite twice going gameless for a week and enduring another 17 days without a contest. This week the Cougars open on the road with a Western State Conference contest in Oxnard on Tuesday (2:30), before returning home to host local rival Allan Hancock in another WSC showdown on Thursday (2:30). Cuesta is also scheduled to host Bakersfield for a doubleheader on Saturday (12/2). Their match-up with the Renegades was originally for the Valentine's Day weekend but was rained out.
The Cougars spent last Saturday in Fresno for a doubleheader against the Rams. Fresno City protected their homefield in the opener, 6-1, but in the nightcap, the Cougars scored thrice in the third inning and held onto to earn the split, 3-2. Cuesta Pitcher Shelbi Griffith was tagged for nine hits in the game but only allowed two runs on her way to victory. Sophomore Abigail Haller and Freshman Maddie Sheadel were the only Cuesta players to earn a hit in both ends of the twinbill. The spit moved the Cougars to 7-7 overall.
