Cuesta Softball Wins Against Local Rival Allan Hancock, 8-2

Cuesta Softball got back on track with a victory over local Rival Allan Hancock, 8-2, in a Western State Conference showdown.  The Bulldogs traveled to SLO for their, twice postponed, first of two meetings this season.  All-WSC Shortstop Danya Boyd put the visiting Bulldogs on their heels with a two-run homer as the Cougars jumped in front during their first at bat.  Two innings later, Third Baseman Addison Finegan, who bats ahead of Boyd, slugged her own roundtripper to put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs.  Boyd then added a Triple to ignite another three-run rally, including two on Triple by all-WSC Outfielder Hailey Hallford.  On the day, Boyd, Finegan and Hallford accounted for seven of their team's eight hits in the game.  Cuesta Pitcher Shelbi Griffith went the distance in the Circle to earn the decision, while allowing seven hits and just one earned run.  The victory moved the Cougars to 10-8 overall and to the top of the WSC table.  The Cougars are 10-8 overall and their 4-1 mark against WSC gives them a half-game lead atop the standings.

Softball shall spend the rest of the week on the road with one game South and two in the North.  On Thursday (2:30), the Cougars travel South for a WSC game at Santa Barbara City, before charting a course North to Reedley on Friday (12/2 PM). The Cougars and Tigers shall play a non-conference twinbill.  On another note, Cuesta's twice rain delayed doubleheader against Bakersfield has been given a new date.  The Cougars and Renegades, thanks to a WSC Forfeit by the day's original opponent Los Angeles Pierce, shall play at Cuesta on Tuesday (1/3 PM), March 25.
