Cuesta Softball enjoyed their biggest offensive day of the season with a win over Santa Monica, 26-2. The win over the Corsairs marked their largest run production this season and the most since beating Santa Monica, 31-3, last season. The Cougars have enjoyed only three 20-run games since the pandemic and all three have been against the Corsairs. Nine Cuesta players enjoyed a multi-hit game, led by all-WSC Outfielder Hailey Hallford and Catcher Sophia Edwards, who both went 5-for-5. The Cougars were 27-for-39 as team, including two doubles, four triples and a pair of roundtrippers. Outfielder Cierra Cloud was just a Double short of hitting for the cycle, while all-WSC Shortstop Danya Boyd connected for a Double and a Home Run, along with four RBI, before subbing out after just three innings of play. Freshman Pitcher Shelbi Griffith went the distance in the Circle and earned the victory, while scattering seven hits and allowing just one earned run. The triumph improved the Cougars record to 15-10 on the season and 6-2 against the Western State Conference.
Softball returns to its Western State Conference schedule next week but will first travel to Salinas to make-up a rain delayed doubleheader against Hartnell this Saturday (12/2 PM). The Cougars shall stay on the road to kick-off their second swing through the conference at Moorpark on Tuesday (2:30). They will also be back in SLO to host Oxnard next Thursday (2:30)
